Locarno ... again

Even though we've been to Locarno once before, we didn't mind one bit going there again. And we have plans to get there at least one more time this summer and probably a few more times next year.

Locarno is located in southern Switzerland and when it is chilly and rainy in northern Switzerland (i.e. in Zürich) it is usually warmer and sunny in Locarno. In Locarno you have beautiful Lake Maggiore, loads of mountains to hike in just a short PostBus ride away, palm trees, great Italian food given its closeness to Italy, and a laid-back vacation atmosphere. Not to mention that both times we've been to Locarno there has been some sort of festival going on - live music and/or dancing, street markets, tons of people. There seems to always be something fun and social going on.

My Mom snapped this great picture of Lake Maggiore from her hotel room (we stayed at the Ramada La Palma which has a great view of the lake):

And the boats:

And she also captured a little spot of sunlight on one of the hills (it was mostly cloudy most of the time we were there):

We took my parents up to a lookout in the mountains right next to Locarno. Up at the top is where paragliders take off for a day of hanging out in the sky and my mom took about a million pictures of them. Here are some paragliders getting ready to take off while Martin and my dad watch. Martin and my dad had just walked up the last bit to the top of the mountain while my mom and I took a chairlift up and then hung out at the cafe at the top.

A pic from the top (since it was cloudy out you couldn't get a full view of the Alps but the views were still impressive):

My parents enjoying coffee and hot chocolate at the restaurant at the top:

We ate a nice dinner in the garden at Ristorante da Valentino (which Martin and I had been to before so we knew it was good), which is pricey but delicious and Martin and I will likely make it a habit of eating there when we're in Locarno as a special treat:

And the pretty night lights in Locarno:

Enjoying a last few minutes on our balcony before heading to Montreux:
