The Bad Dürkheim Farmer's Market

The weekly town paper was advertising a farmer's market for this Sunday so even though it was rainy and cool outside Martin and I wandered down to check it out. It was much bigger than we expected, and there were easily several thousand people wandering around in the rain with us. There were a lot of foodstuffs there - cheeses, sausages, schnapps, fruit and veggies, new wine, soup, bread - but also a lot of crafts.

Jam ... we bought some currant jam ... they had pumpkin jam too but I was skeptical.

Goats! They were, naturally, next to the goat cheese booth.

The coffee and cake booth! Best. Idea. Ever. But there were too many to choose from! After much deliberation we ended up sharing a piece that was kind of cheesecakey on the top.

Some more crafts:

Some of the crowd:

Free samples of different cheesy spreads. I tried a few but it got pretty crowded here so it was hard to try more than a few.

On top of all this, the stores were open all afternoon (stores are never open here on Sunday, except 1-2 times per year like today when there is a big event downtown) so we were able to duck into the grocery store to buy baking powder so Martin could bake a lemon cake when we got home. Priorities.
