A Little Biking and Hiking

Sorry we've been boring for the past few months but we're about to get interesting again! Our summer of wine festivals and travel is about to begin. This past weekend we did some biking and hiking just around our town Bad Dürkheim so I decided to post some pictures of that.

Yesterday we biked to Freinsheim where the Altstadtfest was taking place. It's about a 12-mile ride round trip.

In the middle of a field was this big white asparagus man. The Germans really love white asparagus (spargel). Every spring they eat it nonstop while it's in season and they even have Spargelfests where every dish you can eat has spargel in it and there are contests for the kids like who can peel their spargel the fastest.

Now some scenic pictures:

And a single picture of some people enjoying lunch at the Altstadtfest. Freinsheim is a really small town but it has a cute old town area that is pedestrian-only.

The following are pictures from our wander through the Pfalzerwald today. You can wander into the forest and get lost for hours, there are thousands of trails. The first picture is looking back at Bad Dürkheim on our way into the forest.

Below are some cute houses we passed in town on our way in/out of the forest. The second house has designs carved into it instead of being painted on like they usually are here. I thought that was neat.
