Wasserburg and Lindau

We spent one night in Wasserburg, which is right next to Lindau. We had intended to stay in Lindau because it was a cute town located on an island/peninsula in Lake Constance, but we found a hotel in Wasserburg that used to be a castle so we decided to stay there.

It was cloudy and rainy for our one night in Wasserburg, and for our walk around Lindau the following morning. But we soldiered on and took some pictures anyway.

Here's the view of the lake from my parents' hotel room:

The hotel was called "Schlosshotel Wasserburg" and it sat right on the lake and had a nice indoor/outdoor patio you could sit on and have a drink or a meal while overlooking the lake (weather permitting).

Here are some boats on the lake:

There was a church right next to our hotel that Martin and I wandered into. Each column in it had a note on it from a time when the lake had completely frozen over, in the German language as it was at that time (it was interesting to see how the language had changed over the years). It has only happened three times apparently, at least since the church was built, in 1573, 1830, and 1963 ... and in 1963 planes could land on the lake it was so frozen.

Here we are on the waterfront in Lindau:

The lion and the lighthouse are behind us. The lion is the symbol of Bavaria. He's facing across the lake so you can only see his back.

The harbor is lined with hotels and on a sunny day it would be quite nice to sit at one of the hotel cafes and have a few drinks while watching the boats come and go. But on this rainy morning we instead got to watch the fire company replace light bulbs on the front of one of the hotels:

Lindau has lots of shopping, several churches that we popped into, the waterfront (where you could hop onto a boat and go anywhere else on Lake Constance), a farmer's market (at least while we were there), and many cute old buildings like the Rathaus (town hall):

And another building:

I'd recommend staying in one of the hotels right on the waterfront in Lindau with a view of the lion and lighthouse, spending a day wandering around Lindau, then taking a boat ride around the lake or to a different town on the lake for another day or two. Austria, Germany, and Switzerland all border this lake so you could hit three countries in a single day.
