Finland 2018: Seita Hotel
For this trip to Finland, we decided to stay at a hotel with private cabins instead of doing a group northern lights tour. We wanted not only to watch for northern lights but also to do some xc skiing, hiking, and just generally be on our own schedules. Eventually, I think we hope to just rent a cabin on our own for future trips but we figured to get started we should rent a cabin affiliated with a hotel while we get the lay of the land. And honestly it was so nice having all our meals made for us we may just stick with the hotel route!
The Seita Hotel has a handful of rooms in the actual hotel and then a bunch of cabins scattered around the grounds. Our cabin was maybe 0.25 miles from the hotel. This is how we transported our luggage around the grounds:
What was nice about the hotel was that they fed you a buffet breakfast and dinner every day, plus there was a sandwich-making station so you could make and take a sandwich with you for the day. So we didn't have to buy any food other than a few snacks which was really nice. Here's one of their dinner menus:
Our cabin was perfect; we had our own sauna and fireplace and mini-kitchen. It was nice and rustic. We didn't take any pictures of the inside but here are some pictures of our cabin and other cabins and the hotel grounds in general:
This is the main hotel building:
Seita is by no means a 5-star resort but they feed you well, the staff are all friendly and helpful, the cabins are nice, clean, and secluded so it's just you and nature and peace and quiet, the xc ski trails go right by the front of the hotel, buses pick you up and drop you off at the hotel to/from the airport and the local downhill ski resort ... it's a really great place to be. Just sayin'.
