Thanksgiving 2014
As usual, this year we hosted Thanksgiving for a group of our friends. This year we had guests from Germany, Switzerland, France, and the US. We made turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, cole slaw, a cold asparagus salad, and finally rum balls for dessert. Our guests brought a sweet potato quiche and a breaded broccoli dish as side dishes and tiramisu, raspberry dream, and a raspberry cake for dessert. Needless to say, we have a ton of leftovers today!
The main leftover that we have is turkey. We ordered a 20-22 pound turkey and when we went to pick it up the butcher said the smallest bird he could find was 31 pounds. So, that's what we got. European ovens are not very big so we ended up having to remove the legs and cook them separately after the turkey was done cooking. The pan that the turkey is in in the pictures below is exactly the size of our oven. That's how small the oven is. And the bird, in the pan, was about 1-2" shorter than the oven.
